Carmignolle: a man’s hat of the sort frequently seen in 15th century illustrations. A hat with a divided brim, held up at the top by laces, often producing a tuft. The description reminds me of a ushanka or a trapper hat. Come to think of it, I had such a hat as a child that saved my ears from freezing on the ski slopes in Norway.
